LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, OH -
The US Open Local Qualifier at Four Bridges Country Club proved to be a formidable test for the 120 players competing. The top 6 participants moved on to the US Open Final Qualifier, aiming for a spot in June's US Open at Shinnecock Hills.
Evan began his round on the back nine, struggling to find his rhythm. After pars on holes 10 and 11, he bogeyed the par 4 12th, putting him at +1. Following five consecutive pars, a wayward tee shot on the par 4 18th forced Evan to attempt an up-and-down from a greenside bunker, but his 6-foot putt narrowly missed.
Upon turning to the front nine, Evan finally hit his stride, nearly making a birdie on hole 1 and then securing consecutive birdies on holes 2, 3, and 4. The last birdie came on a drivable par 4 requiring a 280-yard carry over water into the wind. Evan's tee shot landed pin-high just left of the hole, and his chip and putt brought him into red numbers for the day.
After easy pars on holes 5 and 6, Evan had two excellent birdie opportunities on 7 and 8 but failed to convert. His tee shot on the course's toughest hole, the par 4 9th, which had a stroke average of 5.3 for the day (harder than three of the four par 5s), landed in trouble and necessitated a pitch-out. His subsequent 180-yard approach rolled to the back of the green, leaving a 40-foot par putt that stopped inches short of the cup.
The final bogey resulted in an even-par round of 72, 6.3 shots better than the field average. However, this score placed Evan in 9th, just one shot shy of a playoff to advance to the next qualifier.
Evan will compete next at Cincinnati's Clovernook Open, May 6-8, 2026.
